Mary Beth Shaw is one of the first artists I watched online when diving into mixed media so she has a special place in my heart.

Her work is very abstract and I'm not sure if in the beginning of my journey that I could have allowed myself to go create freely through the process without knowing how it was going to turn out.

As I was watching her video I took basic notes of her steps and kind of followed them, knowing that however it turns out, it will be fine. (And if  not, then I would work on it until it was)

I started by collecting various papers in a particular color scheme (I chose orange) including some neutrals and also took some ripped pieces from magazines. I then collaged them all over my journal page.

I continued by using an orange distress crayon, blending it and then laying a baby wipe down on top of a stencil and wiping it through.​ I took some gesso and lay it over some of the blended distressed crayons and then scratched through it. I then took a large stencil and used orange paint to stencil through that.

As I sat looking at it at all that orange I decided it needed a pop of color so I used this blue gorgeous ranger paint that I just used in another page as well. Blue is the complement of orange so it was amazing how I just felt that blue would be the color that would tie it all together.

I took some marker covers, stamped with the blue paint , used a stencil to add more blue and used  stencils to add some ​whites and blacks.

When it was dry I did some writing with a stabilo pencil and some embellishing with some other markers.​
